“I tried many doctors, medicines, therapies, PT, and gyms with little success until working with Matt S. at The PIT Gym. His approach to functional education and training is now my only medicine.

My health history turned others away, but not Matt. Laminectomy, 2 new hips, 20 fused vertebrae and D.I.S.H (which is a condition that grows bones in all the wrong places). The Doctors said in 2 years I'd be in a corner unable to wipe my own drool, and there is nothing we can do for you! I was spending about 2 hours every day on physical exercise and pain reduction. But even a couple years later I still had very limited mobility and chronic pain (5-8 range).

I had to continue my search for better mobility with less pain, this led me to The PIT Gym and Gina, who suggested Matt S. He had me stop the frilly google stuff and taught me fundamental basics: functional strength, proper breathing, progressive overload, technique, technique, technique. This cut my exercise time in half, with better results. I went from agonizing over how I was going to make it through the day to today; no medications, no supplements, can dress myself, much greater mobility, much less pain overall (0-5) and most important getting back to a normal activity filled life.

THANK YOU MATT and GINA!”

“My first introduction to barbell training was through CrossFit about 5 years ago. I loved how lifting left me feeling strong and how the programming focused on performance rather than just body composition. After about a year of that, I became interested in more competitive strength training and found The PIT and powerlifting.

Because I was still new to competitive lifting, I immediately sought the help of a coach. Through Gina’s recommendation I began working with Matt A. at the end of 2019 just before gyms closed during the pandemic. Matt’s commitment to me as a client during that tumultuous time was unwavering; from creating workouts I could do with the pieces of equipment I had at home to promptly responding to my messages with technical feedback and answers to all my questions. It was then that I knew I had a good coach. Since then I have competed and podiumed at several Powerlifting meets and Strongman competitions, and as a bonus packed on some quality muscle and strength in the process all with Matt A. as my coach.

Anyone can download a plug and play strength program online, but the benefit of having someone you can troubleshoot technique issues, recovery optimization, injuries, etc in real-time is unmatched. In my experience the signs of a good coach are someone who is approachable when problems/questions come up, someone who can explain their reasoning behind programming choices/exercise selection, someone who takes the time to understand the athlete’s “why” and someone who grows the coach/athlete relationship from “do this because” to more of a collaboration as experience is gained. I can say without a doubt that Matt A. embodies all of these qualities and then some. I am lucky to call The PIT my home gym and Matt A. my coach and friend.”

“I’ve been training at The PIT with Deb for about 4 months now and can not say enough good things. They gym is always well kept and has an abundance of equipment. Since I’ve been training with Deb my form has gotten dramatically better and my confidence in the gym is way up. Deb really takes the time to fully explain the exercises, what we will be doing, as well as the proper way to perform each exercise so I don’t injure myself. I can definitely feel myself getting stronger and making smarter choices with my diet. Deb has also been helping me with my nutrition and it’s been challenging but she makes it very easy to understand. Deb is one of the best trainers I’ve had and really takes her time to get to know her clients so they get the best out of their gym experience.”

“Most of my mornings begin at The PIT, it is so much more than a gym. I love my workouts here and I never feel judged. It is super clean. I came here from another facility which was a more traditional “gym”, and I cannot imagine working out anywhere else. My trainer Matt S. continually coaches me to reach new goals and lifting is so much more a part of my life now. When I started training, I had several physical challenges and I have worked through almost all of them thanks to my trainer and this outstanding facility.”

“I was not a very disciplined person when it came to the gym. I had no idea what I was doing nor did I want any help. I worked out to be skinny, to look a certain way and I was incredibly unhappy. I came to a Strongman Competition at The PIT Gym one day and it changed my life. I quickly realized I needed a coach. Matt A. Came highly recommended because of his attention to detail and knowledge of the sport. He has changed the way I think about myself and really has taken me to the next level in strength. He has really helped me believe in myself, accept my strength and not only be a great Coach but a Friend. I complain A LOT and I love to annoy him (it’s actually quite fun) but I am ever so grateful for his knowledge and belief in his athletes. If you are looking to gain incredible strength and a pain in the neck friend (trust me his neck is the size of TX) give Matt A. a shout. But shout loudly, he’s old ;) “

“Words cannot express how grateful I am for Debbie Gamba’s support this past year.

When I first started training with Debbie I was not feeling like myself. As a former athlete, fitness has always been a passion of mine and something I really enjoy but I was recovering from a horrible back injury (3 herniated discs in my lower back) that made it challenging for me to live the active lifestyle and to achieve the fitness goals I desired.

Due to the injury, I was struggling to lose the remaining baby weight I had gained from having my twins.

On the very first day of training with Debbie at The PIT, we had a conversation about creating a training plan that would be safe for my back injury and a personalized nutrition plan. Having a plan made me feel instantly better! The PIT has been a great place to train because it is a nice open space with amazing equipment.

While I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, I knew I was in the best hands and that if I committed to following her instruction I would get the results I was looking for.

Debbie always reminded me that I needed to trust the process. She was and is so supportive and encouraging. She motivated me and kept me accountable.

Over the course of the year I achieved several of my fitness goals including losing 30lbs and 6% body fat. We continue to set new goals together and have had a lot of fun in the process.

Thanks to Debbie’s help I feel so much better both physically and mentally. I look forward to setting new goals and continuing my fitness journey with Debbie!”

“Following a 10 year absence from working out I was in the worst shape of my life. I sought out a coach to help get me back in shape and have been working with Matt Stannard at The PIT for the past year. Matt did a thorough assessment on me and we got to work. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable and we kept injury prevention at the forefront while working on my general fitness. A little over a year later (and not being able to do a lunge or a body weight squat), I am preparing for my first powerlifting meet. I never thought this much progress was possible in a year but thanks to Matt and everyone at The PIT I’m working towards a goal I thought I’d never achieve. Couldn’t be happier!”

“When I had my 2nd baby I needed to get back in shape. I waited until I was able to workout. My husband thought I would really get along with Debbie and enjoy her workouts, and he was right.

Our personalities clicked and her workouts were exactly what I needed.  She helped me lose my baby weight and regain strength in my core. You can’t ever be bored working out with her. She takes the time to create unique programs specific to your goals and athletic abilities.

Prior to meeting Debbie I had 6 knee surgeries and various other injuries… She has always accommodated my needs and limitations while still pushing hard enough to achieve real results. We are currently focusing on glutes and, as always, she exceeds expectations.

If you are looking for a dedicated coach who cares about your health and well-being as much as helping you achieve your fitness goals, I highly recommend Debbie.”
